| A few years ago I reconnected with an acquaintance from many years before, Elizabeth Mayer, then a respected psychoanalyst and Professor at the Berkeley campus of the University of California when we reconnected. She told me about the book she was working on, Extraordinary Knowing: Science, Skepticism, and the Inexplicable Powers of the Human Mind . It was about an extraordinary personal experience she had where her young daughter's unusual harp had been stolen, she was desperate, her daughter was in such distress. The police had given up on finding it. When a friend dared her to ask a dowser to find it, she scoffed, but what did she have to lose? She got it back through contacting a dowser a thousand miles away! She then went on to write about parapsychology from her unique vantage point. I was reminded of this book when a friend sent me a link to a YouTube video of Lisby (as she was called) daring to describe this event at a scientific meeting.
